“Startup culture.” “Cultural fit.” “Work hard play hard.” “Culture is the glue that holds an organization together.

Culture is deemed one of the most important factors to job-seekers; cultural fit is one of the key factors most hiring managers look for. But how exactly can you tell how a company’s culture is?

It’s a very nebulous concept; clearly intangible and sometimes indescribable.

Working somewhere with the wrong culture for you can result in extreme unhappiness, or at least mild dissatisfaction; hiring someone that doesn’t culturally fit with your team can cause issues in communication, teamwork, and employee retention.

That’s why one of the most asked interview questions is some version of: “How and in what environment do you work best?”

Conversely, the interviewee likely will ask a variation of: “What’s the company culture like?”

And the answer to your question of: “What’s your favorite thing about the company?” is probably: “Oh, the company culture!”
